Eco-Management and Audit Schemes (EMAS) in CEE Municipalities as a Tool for Local Agenda 21

Projects

The project Eco-Management and Audit Schemes (EMAS) in CEE Municipalities as a Tool for Local Agenda 21 is a cooperative project of 7 CEE non-government organizations from 6 CEE countries including Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania and Slovakia and coordinated by the Center for Environmental Studies, Budapest, Hungary.

The goal of the project is to promote continuous improvement in sustainable development in CEE local communities in a systematic and cost-effective way by:

 providing a tool, i.e. EMAS adapted to local governments and thereby improving their environmental performance;

 introducing EMAS in a pilot community in each of the six participating countries to demonstrate the usefulness of the method;

 initiating the voluntary application of EMAS by CEE local governments at the Aarhus conference
